The Blood of Dawnwalker Adds Skills Respec, Animal Petting & Easier Story Mode

The Blood of Dawnwalker has received its first major post-launch update, and it comes with several improvements, fixes, tweaks, and, more importantly, new features based on community feedback.

Developer Rebel Wolves shared the full patch notes for The Blood of Dawnwalker’s Update 1.1 on October 22, 2026, at the same time it went live. They’re quite substantial, so head over to the official site for the full rundown. That said, we’re underlining the biggest additions and changes below.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Update 1.1 Adds Skills Respec, Animal Petting & New Story Difficulty

In direct response to player feedback shared since the game’s launch, Rebel Wolves has added the following features to The Blood of Dawnwalker:

  • Draught of Mind Rebirth: Forget all your Swordmastery, Witchcraft, and Vampirism abilities, and use the time you spent learning them to master a different set of abilities.
  • Animal petting
  • Update to the Story mode: Pick between the Forgiving game difficulty (previously called Story) and a new Story mode with additional combat assist.
  • Additional subtitle settings: Increase the font size and enable subtitles for ALL dialogue lines.

Skills/perks respec is a big deal, as Dawnwalker actually enables players to tinker with all sorts of builds. Now, we’re able to rebuild Coen without needing to start a new game. As for the new Story difficulty, it should allow the most casual players to enjoy this RPG without caring about the (peculiar) combat without disabling it.

As always, we’re happy to see better options for subtitles (Dawnwalker really suffered from really hard-to-read text at times) and the ability to pet the friendly animals spread across the game’s dense setting. The whole adventure needn’t feel miserable!

The Blood of Dawnwalker Update 1.1 Changes Selling, Equipment Presets & Invincible Boars

Beyond the noteworthy additions, The Blood of Dawnwalker’s first big patch actually squashes several issues and even adds quality-of-life changes that should make the whole experience much smoother. Again, we really recommend reading through the notes, but here are some highlights:

  • Equipped items are now hidden when selling items.
  • Added a “Buyback” feature when interacting with merchants.
  • Added controller deadzone settings in Options.
  • Rebalanced the cost of upgrading items, especially on higher levels.
  • Items can now be equipped in both presets (day, night) simultaneously.
  • Reduced the health of boars and wolves on higher levels.
  • Tooltip for a stack of items in the inventory will now properly refresh its weight and value after consuming an item.
  • Boar patrols will no longer become immortal and come running to Coen after he uses Voracious Bite on other animals.
  • Disabled objective markers can no longer show up on the compass.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is available on PC (Steam & GOG), PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
